Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults Awareness

It is recognised that adults who are vulnerable in society are at a must greater risk of being abused and/or neglected, even in settings that are set up to care and support them.

Everyone working in care or in the community has a safeguarding responsibility. This is especially true for those working with vulnerable adults who may have limited means for looking after themselves.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this course you will be able to:

Define the terms “vulnerable person” “capacity” and “abuse” and the legislation governing Safeguarding policies and procedures.
Outline the types of abuse and recognise the situation where abuse is at a higher risk and the people who may abuse a vulnerable person
Describe their role in the safeguarding of vulnerable persons
Recognising the signs of abuse
Relay the procedures when responding to concerns or allegations of abuse of vulnerable persons
 

Unit 1: Introduction to Safeguarding

Cover the introduction to Safeguarding and Legislation and policies applicable to Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults.

Unit 2: Vulnerability, Abuse and Risk

We look at vulnerability, what it means and how it can make people susceptible to abuse. We look at who can abuse and the situations or environments where abuse or neglect is at an increased risk.

Unit 3: Categories of Abuse

Covers the different types and categories of abuse and what makes a person re vulnerable and focuses on recognising the signs of possible abuse.

Unit 4: Disclosure

Disclosure: this is about what to do if a vulnerable adult brings abuse to a person’s attention, or if a concern may come to attention without disclosure.

We will look at the barriers to disclosure and the difficulties in identifying abuse.

Learners will know the importance of observation and early detection, how to consider the possibility of a person may be abused and how to respond to any concerns with accuracy.

Learners will develop skills in how to respond to a disclosure and learn why adults often don’t disclose information

Unit 5: Reporting Your Concerns

SOVA Training is a critical learning course which, teaches the important Safeguarding Vulnerable adults and equip individuals with the knowledge to identify and report concerns, helping to protect vulnerable adults from harm.

This SOVA course has been created to develop peoples understanding of vulnerability and capacity, to create an awareness of what constitutes abuse and, be able to identify indicators of abuse.

The course aims to teach the learners the competence required to be able to report and record any concerns learners may have with confidence and help to protect vulnerable adults from further harm.

All organisation must ensure that their staff are trained in and fully understand their role and responsibilities as set out in the  ‘Safeguarding Vulnerable Persons at Risk of Abuse – National Policy and Procedures’.
